We have completed our goal, raising a total of $204,000 for our Fireboat! What a great accomplishment! Thank you to the fundraising team and to the many generous cottagers on Lake Joseph North!
Approval for the purchase of a Fireboat for LJNA was passed by Seguin Township in January and an order for a suitable boat has been placed with Stanley Boats. Because of supply issues the boat will not be available until late summer. Once we are within 3-4 weeks of boat delivery the Seguin Fire Department will order the fire and safety equipment to go onboard.
A public launch event and tours of the fireboat will take place as soon as it is in the water and public health guidelines allow.
In July 2019, the membership of the Lake Joseph North Association overwhelmingly supported a proposed initiative to provide a fireboat for the lake. Volunteers have been working closely with Seguin Township and other partners throughout the year, including Gordon Bay Marina, who have generously committed to supporting the project through sourcing the boat and providing dock space for it on an ongoing basis. Seguin Township will own and manage the boat as well as funding annual ongoing training and maintenance.
The original proposal from Seguin's Fire Chief was to convert a used workboat into a fireboat. Due to demand and availability issues during Covid, there are now no used boats. However we exceeded our original fundraising target, raising over $175,000. This put us in a position to order a new boat with more sophisticated safety equipment onboard, meaning the new fireboat will be even more effective.
We are so grateful for everyone’s help to make this community project a reality!
