E-NEWS JULY 2025

Fellow LJNA members and Lake Joseph Neighbours,

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Gordon Bay Marine’s showroom for our AGM on this Saturday. Join us for coffee and treats from 8:30.  The meeting starts at 9 and ends (promptly) at 10:30.

Our AGM is a great opportunity to learn more about our lake and to meet your neighbours. This year, in addition to welcoming back our mayor and town councillors, and updates from the board,  we will have a special presentation on wakes research from Safe Quiet Lakes.  The Meeting Notice and more details are available on our website.

We have a couple of other events planned this summer and hope to see you:

- Our Annual Benthic Testing day – Thursday August 7th – 10 am

- August Cycling Meet-up – Saturday, August 16th – 9:30 am

More news below.  Please don’t hesitate to be in touch if you have questions or comments on anything here.

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday at the AGM!

Warm regards,

Nancy Cohen, Chair

Seguin Official Plan Review – Seeking Input

The LJNA was an active participant in the creation of Seguin's original Official Plan in the early 2000's.  Seguin is now undertaking a mandated update of the plan and has made the first draft of the proposed plan available for review. The Official Plan sets the land use policies for the township. This review is very important; it sets the parameters for future development in Seguin.

More information about the process is available on letsconnectseguin.ca.

The LJNA is preparing comments and is seeking input from members:  what works? what doesn't?  what would you like to see improved?  Pleases send thoughts to info@ljna.org.

Benthic Sampling Day – Thursday August 7th – NEXT WEEK!

Curious about the bugs in mud? Want to learn more about these important indicators of water quality? Join with other LJNA members on August 7th 10 am for a morning of citizen science. Please check out the event info page to learn more and sign-up.

August Cycling Meet-up - Aug 16th - 9:30am - meet at Gordon Bay Marine

Stay connected with LJNA activities and news

An important part of our mission is to connect the neighbours on Lake Joe North.

Last summer, we launched an Instagram account to share exciting initiatives, events and programming.  We also post lost and found - most recently a yellow kayak found at the north end. Check it out at: LakeJoeNorthAssociation.

Another way to stay connected is to subscribe to this e-news. Members can add up to 4 emails to their account. Others can subscribe HERE.

Our summer newsletter was delivered to all the docks on North Lake Joe earlier this month. If you missed your copy, you can download it from the LJNA website.  Extra copies will be available at the AGM.

Thank you to the dozens of volunteers who helped - by writing articles, stuffing and delivering the newsletter - truly a team effort!

Seguin Township News

The Township has two community engagement opportunities they have asked us to share with our members.

The Rosseau Memorial Hall restoration project is underway, as outlined in the master plan shared with the community and Council in 2024. ERA architects are hosting an open house on Friday, August 8 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Rosseau Memorial Hall to inform next steps for restoring the building. Refreshments will be provided and all are welcome.

Public Works is hosting an information session on Thursday, August 14 from 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm at Humphrey Community Centre to discuss solutions to improve service and standards at Seguin transfer stations. The data shared will be based in part on findings from the Township survey launched earlier this year. The presentation and interactive component will be available online for those unable to attend in person. Details about virtual attendance will be available at letsconnectseguin.ca the week of August 4.

Of Interest and Partner Updates

The Proposed Cliff Bay Overdevelopment: A Threat To Gravenhurst & Muskoka

Members have been in touch with concerns about this development.  A public meeting was hosted by the developer July 16.  Several members attended and the reports are that the meeting raised more questions than it answered.

The MLA is very concerned that the proposal is not in keeping with the character of the area and will negatively impact the environment. Especially concerning are the restaurants and cottages proposed to be built in Lake Muskoka.  Here's a pdf of an article from their July Newsbites.

West Parry Sound Hospital Wait Times Tracker

The WPSHC Emergency Department has an online real-time system that shows you the current wait-times. This is a guideline. Remember, the most urgent cases will always be seen first. Check the wait-time:
