Your Lakes, Your Views Survey 2025
The LJNA is proud to be participating in the 2025 “Your Lakes, Your Views” survey with Safe Quiet Lakes.
Please take a moment today to share your views. This short survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete.
It is important to hear from everyone! Please pass this link along to your friends, family members, and neighbours.

The responses will help us understand the priorities of our members, what people value from their cottage experience, how they use the water and their boating activity concerns. Results from past surveys have guided planning at Safe Quiet Lakes and have been shared with Transport Canada, municipalities, the OPP and boating organizations. The survey will run until July 21 and can be easily accessed from any device.
We look forward to sharing the results with you in the fall.
Help us to get as many responses as possible from Lake Joe! Your voice is important

The Perils of Periwinkle
Submitted by member Renata Zeglinski
I have often admired the flowing swaths of glossy evergreen periwinkle dotted with pretty blue flowers, lining driveways and gardens. It has always been an easy no maintenance ground cover, choking out any weeds.
However, I have recently been alerted to the perils of periwinkle (vinca) in our gardens.

|
Periwinkle is an invasive plant which spreads rapidly by sending out runners. Animals, such as deer, will not graze on the leaves. As such it spreads quickly to form a dense carpet at the expense of other native plants, such as trillium, trout lilies or pink lady slipper orchid (pictured). Its dense spreading habit is noteworthy in our lakeside and woodland properties, as it can easily escape into neighbouring meadows and forests altering our ecosystem and decreasing diversity.
Periwinkle should be kept in well defined areas and monitored carefully to keep escaping shoots in check. Check out this link for some hints if you want to remove periwinkle from your garden.
For alternatives to periwinkle and other invasive species check out Grow Me Instead.
As we make our lakeside and woodland properties prettier and more comfortable, let us be mindful and informed stewards of our native ecosystems.
